Other information - This species can be found in scattered southern and northern Alabama counties. The plant can be identified by its opposite toothed leaves, long pedicels, and its big white to lilac flowers. The flowers have two fertile stamens and no sterile stamens.
The genus name Gratiola derives from the Latin "grat(i)" meaning "pleasing, favor" referring to supposed medicinal properties.
The species epithet floridana derives from the Latin "flor(i)" meaning "a flower." The name means "of Florida (USA)."
