Other information - This attractive and unique species can be found scattered throughout Alabama wherever suitable habitat occurs. The bright yellow flower stalks combined with the bluish-green leaves make this species unmistakable. The leaves have a coating that sheds water easily.
The genus name Orontium was a name given to some plant that grew in the Orontes river in Syria.
The species epithet aquaticum derives from the Latin "aqua(tic)" meaning "of water."
